Imani's Forty!

Four decades ago the Creator saw fit to knit me together/Breathe life into my lungs- purposefully chose me to be a daughter not a son/in His likeness perfect but with certain imperfections, flawed but yet and still flawless/Nonetheless according to His plan and I AM SPECIAL no matter what the devil/tries to whisper in my ear tries to strip me out of gear-I can conquer ALL/Because I carry in my spirit the strength of the Queens of faith/That bear witness to my legacy: Esther, Ruth, Sarai.../Though I was once like the woman who ailed for twelve years/I have tugged on the Messiah's tunic and have been healed/And filled...And I'm grateful for this chance to dance in the fields of FORTY.

A New Year

A new year…
Perfect timing to thank God for new beginnings
A season to wipe the slate clean and start fresh with forgiving and forgetting
To thoroughly examine how you have been living
And be excited about the opportunity of repenting
Who are we representing? Are our lives convicting?
Are we unrelenting in our efforts to allow
The world to recognize whose we are by the way we are living?
Are we blending? Or are we set apart?
Are you going through the motions on the surface
And not dealing with the renewal of your mind, the attitude of your heart?
“I spend time in the word and try to pray every day!”
But when the rubber meets the road and the enemy is staring you in the face
Do you whip out your Ephesians 6 weapons
Or hand the baton to your flesh to finish the race?
Does Satan win the battle at the starting gate?
Are we still struggling with prejudice, envy, or hate?
Is overeating, impurity, or spending your sin of choice for escape?
Are we crippled by the memories of childhood abuse? Neglect? Rape?
Are our fruitless deeds of darkness starting to separate?
Seal our fate? Are we finally resolving to stop doing it “my way”?
Are we ready to rid ourselves of sin’s dead weight?
Today is the day of spiritual renewal
Confession, godly sorrow, redemption through his blood – the tools
To God we are his most precious jewels
And you have been crowned as kings and queens by the King of the Jews
Do not let anyone misconstrue or confuse you – you have predestined value
And this is a fact:
As adopted sons and daughters we can follow Christ in the order of Melchizedek
A royal priesthood, a holy nation
Chosen to rescue this corrupt and depraved generation
The imperfect made perfect through his forgiveness and his grace
This is a race – and he will try to cut you off at every turn
This is the pace – forgetting the past mistakes because winning the prize ahead is our concern
Yes, I’ve learned that the battle is not for the swift but the steady
Let’s get at the ready: dropping love grenades and peace bombs
Matthew 28:20 is the insignia on our coat of arms
And our shield of faith is extinguishing all the adversary’s flaming arrows
Your sword firmly in your right hand, slicing down through joint and marrow
Take heed to a strong, unified people of courage with the belt of truth buckled around the waist!
The breastplate of righteousness affixed firmly in place
With more strength than a Spartan, more tenacity than a Titan
And our legions of commanders are American, Australian, African and Asian!
Being washed by the blood of the Lamb is the only prequalification
We’re a nation built on servitude and fortitude and with an attitude of humility
Let’s renew our hunger for solid food – the nourishment of spiritual maturity.
